Kara Miranda - Dance
Captivated by the passionate art of flamenco, Kara Miranda has pursued this dynamic expressive dance form for over a decade. A flamenco performance by her ballet instructor Veronica Maguire with guitarist husband Harry Owen inspired Kara to begin studying this compelling art form in 1994. In Victoria, she has performed in numerous shows, joining in Alma de Espaņa company performances and with the group Peņa Flamenco. Winning a 2002 Kiwanis Art Award for her original choreography helped fund her trip to Spain that year to study with flamenco masters during the famed "Festival de Jerez". Following her move to Vancouver in 2004, Kara trained and graduated from Flamenco Rosario's professional program in 2007, joining in their productions "Los Cuatros Vientos" (2006) and "Flamenco Ayer y Hoy" (2007). She currently continues her studies through Mozaico Flamenco and through various workshops of visiting artists such as Yaelisa, Cha Cha, Irene, Juana Amaya, and Carmen Romeros to name a few. Other notable performances include her government-funded show in Terceira, Portugal in 2007, her show for Vancouver's 2008 Portuguese Heritage month and her show with La Triana in the 2009 Vancouver International Flamenco Festival.
